I have a question for the universe:

Why is Tyler Perry in Star Trek?

Seriously.

I went to a late showing at the Detroit Science Center's IMAX theater on Friday night with Colin and his brother, who came from Toledo to spend the night. The theater is a little crazy, with its dome ceiling. Before the movie started, they played that song from the opening credits of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and did, like, a mini light show. It was weird.

I really enjoyed the movie, despite my long-standing disinterest in all things sci fi. It was a good story that was paced well, and hit all the right notes of drama, comedy, romance, action. It was good.

But both times when the man responsible for The Family That Preys appeared on-screen, I turned to Colin and asked, "Wait, isn't that Tyler Perry?" And he replied, "No, no, that's just a guy that's in a lot of his movies."

Um, false. It's Tyler Perry.

(Who happens to be in a lot of Tyler Perry movies.)

So, universe, explain... what is up with that?
